Dragon’s Loyalty Award

Hello!~ It’s actually been a while since I got nominated for an award so it’s going to be fun fun fun! Thank you, Summer from xingsings for nominating me for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. I saw that she used a customized thumbnail for the award so I googled the original picture for the award. Erm…yes, so I’m going to also use a different picture because the original tag is not that appealing.

1. I am part of a traditional Chinese dance team that goes by a name with ‘Dragon’ in it.

2. I used to be a psychology and elementary ed major but I switched my psych major to iSTEM with a bio specialization so I will be graduating a semester late.

3. I think Zootopia is better than Frozen.

4. I don’t really watch any TV shows (believe me, I’ve tried) and I don’t have Netflix.

5. I love orange juice (not from concentrate). And 2% milk. Skim milk is so sickly-looking.

6. I rarely wear makeup. I’m just honestly lazy and even if I do, I just wear eyeliner.

7. I’m afraid of heights but I still go on roller coasters and ropes courses for the thrill of it.

Sunshine Blogger Award

“The whole idea of the Sunshine Award is that you nominate eleven bloggers who put a little sunshine in your day, who are positive, creative, and inspiring.”

– Answer the 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
– Nominate some wonderful bloggers and write 11 questions for them to answer.

Thank you aceshadowdragon for nominating me! Your questions are super interesting and I had so much fun writing my answers. Please check out Ace/Meredith’s blog because her website is prettier than mine and she has great taste in books.

  1. What’s your favorite season of the year (ex. fall, winter) and why? Spring is the best season in terms of temperature and I like being able to walk around without being bogged down by heavy winter coats.
  2. If you happened to borrow Mr. Peabody’s Wabac (time-machine), what time period would you visit? The Georgian era in Great Britain looks pretty to me.
  3. Who is your favorite character in The Lion King? If you haven’t watched it, shame on you. Timon
  4. Current favorite song? Dope by BTS I’m providing you the link so watch it!!
  5. If you were forced to play a card game, and your life was the prize, which game would you prefer playing? (ex. poker, black jack, etc.) Cards Against Humanity? I’m terrible with cards so I’m better off playing chance games.
  6. What is your favorite book series of all time? This is difficult but only The Queen’s Thief by Megan Whalen Turner comes to mind right now.
  7. Do you enjoy camping? I’ve done it for one whole summer which is enough to last me a lifetime.
  8. What’s your preferred type of weather? Warm and sunny but breezy to counterbalance the heat.
  9. What’s the quickest time it has taken you to finish a book? I somehow end up reading long books but 2 hours.
  10. Have you ever ridden a horse? No. 😦
  11. How many books have you read this year so far? 38 books so far but I want to reach 50 by the end of this year.

Sorry, I’m really hungry while I’m writing this so food’s on my mind.

My questions:

  1. Favorite fruit?
  2. Vegetables or Meat?
  3. Favorite meat?
  4. Have you eaten paper before?
  5. Do you like hearing the sound of typing on a keyboard?
  6. Where have you traveled/which countries do you wish to visit?
  7. How many books have you read this month?
  8. How many books do you plan to read at the end of this year?

Encouraging Thunder Award

Wow, there’s so many awards on the blogging platform that I can’t keep up! It’s always fun to discover a new one out there with super interesting concepts.

Many thanks to Dimple @enthrallingdimple and

Thank the person who nominated you.
Post the Encouraging Thunder logo.
Mention your purpose in blogging.

Purpose of Blogging:

I have pretty much stopped deriving a joy from writing entering college. I have always preferred reading to writing simply because writing requires so much energy and contemplation. Although professors and teachers have praised for my writing, I did not go out of my way to write unless I absolutely must for homework or an assignment. I consider it technical writing and thus I did not practice ‘creative writing’ for a long while. For those people who actually read my reviews (thank you very much!), please bear with me because I’m still a writer-in-training. I usually don’t spell-check but I will try my best to get into the habit of it, and feel free to point out my typos and mistakes!

I also want to share my opinions and persuade people to read because reading is fun!! Whether it is reading my blog posts, reviews, or a book, I hope everyone will continue to pursue knowledge through literacy.

Free Spirit Award

One of the greatest gems of blogging is the nominations and passing on of awards. It is such a great interactive tool especially amidst the blogging community when blogs tend to be a lone venture in stream-of-consciousness. This is actually what I want to talk about since the award has given me leeway to spew whatever I want!

Thank you for nominating me, Honya and for leaving the topic as eponymous as the award name. 🙂 From what I see, I need to only follow this guideline: Use the topic that the previous nominee provided you with and go off on that tangent. And be sure to nominate other great bloggers in the end!!
Since the topic was left open, I’ll just follow up on what Honya discussed in her post. I came into blogging naturally because of my long-standing love of books. I had always been a bookworm and it was further intensified when I discovered Goodreads. However, I didn’t truly start writing full reviews until college sophomore year (which was when I started up this blog) and I truthfully didn’t think I would stay. I assumed I would put hours of effort into making my WP website just like how I did with Tumblr and Pinterest but then quit a few days later. I had a strong ambition because writing is not my strongest skill set and my long-term goal was simply to write about what I read. So it’s been 9 months and I’m still here. I don’t know if my writing has improved because I’m still writing colloquially, and I personally did not feel a cataclysmic shift towards publish-worthy writing.

Frankly, there is no subject other than books that I can happily write and gush about. (I mean…I have Bangtan Boys and my favorite kdramas but I’m so biased that I’ll end up fangirling most of the time when I write about them.) It’s hard nowadays to find someone who loves to read, and it’s even harder to find someone love the same books I read. Sure, I found friends who loved The Glass Throne series by Sarah Maas but I’m also looking for those who read my other favorites. Where are you people?!

I really felt welcomed in the community and the amount of feedback I’ve gotten simply through a like or comment is immensely motivating. Although I don’t need people to read my posts, I am honored that they do. Even if the blogger skims through my writing, I believe it is still reading because they get the gist of what I want to say and they get a hefty idea of my writing style. My thoughts aren’t important and the fact that someone is taking time to read them, it is an absolute miracle!

So thank you to all you commenters, likers, and nominators! I really enjoy blogging and now that I’m taken up with school and work, I still hope someone will read whatever meager posts I come up with. It is an empowering outlet for me and I’m glad I made the transition from keeping a diary as a child to writing short GR blurbs to airing out longer thoughts on WordPress.

I want to nominate new followers and hear what they say!

3 Quotes Challenge- Day 3

I was nominated by Kath from The Last Reader for the 3 Days 3 Quotes Challenge. Thank you for nominating me! And here’s Day 3!!

The rules are simple:

• Thank the person who nominated you.
• Post one quote each day for 3 days (it can be anybody’s quote, even yours. Make sure you credit it properly), and lastly,
• Tag 3 different bloggers everyday.

“All right, my hope—but I am not saying the rest of it—I have something you need to feel.”
She feigned the sound of outrage. “But we barely know each other, sir!”
He laughed softly. “But you must hold it in your hand and feel it change,” he urged, in her ear. “I insist. I can wait no longer.”
She knew they were on a serious subject, but the flutter of his breath on her skin, the low drawl of his words—heat raced along all her nerve endings. “Will I like it?”
“Well, I do have to apologize for its size. It is rather small.” And with that, he pressed something rather small into her hand.”

The humor is totally on point in the book and I completely love the witty banter between all the characters. So this was one of my favorite fantasy series and I’m waiting on the third book The Immortal Heights. The author Sherry Thomas’s writing is fantastic and she makes words seem so fun and interesting to read!! It’s the perfect series to binge-read and it’s especially unique for the fantasy genre.

Here are my nominees:

Have fun!!

He knows bad days. Bad days take him completely by surprise. They make him not trust the good days because it’s likely something is lurking twenty-four hours away.

Let me tell you, read Melina Marchetta’s books. READ THEM. Any one of her books, it’s your choice because I guarantee you that you’ll enjoy it.

Here are my nominations!!

3 Quotes Challenge- Day 1

I was nominated by Kath from The Last Reader for the 3 Days 3 Quotes ChallengeThank you for nominating me!

“He loves me, and I reward his love by forcing on him something he hates. In the evening, after we dance, he rarely returns to the throne; he dances with others or moves from place to place through the room. The court thinks he is trying to be gracious, sharing his attention. Only I see that he moves always to the empty spot and the court always moves after him. He is like a dog trying to escape his own tail. He indulged himself in one brief moment of privacy, and almost died of it. Relius, he hates being king.”

Oh, Eugenides is one of my favorite protagonists of all time! He’s clever, exceedingly stubborn, and can outsmart his whole court!

I’d like to nominate some new people I haven’t really chatted with so here we go:

  2. AfricanDuchess @Duchess Reading
  3. Dimple Malhotra @enthrallingdimple
